Great Tips for Taking Family Road Trips
Road trips are fun, but many parents find it a nightmare traveling with toddlers in the back seat of their cars. The the only thing that is needed is adequate preparedness, and you can take the trip with the young children. If you plan it well, you will most likely have much fun.
Have a Route in Mind
Satnavs make life easier since they ensure that you do not get lost, but modern technology is not enough dependable, not with the many horror stories of GPS devices leading people off-course. Use a GPS device to track your route but in case you don’t have one, you can use an online route planner instead.
Online route planner is handy if you want to get to different destinations. If you are traveling with young children, it is wise that you plan multiple stops along the way, so that they can stretch their legs, get something to eat, and also use the toilet.
You can plan to stop every couple hours. Look at the road you are traveling and see if there are some interesting places that you can visit along the way. These could be any famous landmarks, child-friendly attractions, or any right place of interest that is good for a rest stop. The more interesting you make the journey, the less the kids will be on your road trip.
Have an Entertainment Plan at Hand
Bring along toys, DVDs, games consoles and anything else your kids enjoy. Do not forget to pack their favorite cuddly toy and a blanket to use when they are ready to take a nap. It is okay to bring coloring books and crayons for older children.
Plan for the Foods and Drinks
Road trips that are long can be boring, therefore, do not be surprised if your children eat and drink more than usual. Snacks and drinks help in reducing this tedium, and you can pack some fries, sandwiches, fruits, and cookies. Bring along diluted fruit juice in sip bottles and cups and if the weather is warm, carry a large bottle of water. You can buy extra snacks along the way, but is only sensible that you carry enough food in case you do not get a good place to eat on your route.
Plan for the Unexpected
Expect the unexpected when traveling with young kids. You can carry a change of clothes in the event of accidents or illness and some bags for the soiled clothing. You can include a packet of wet wipes to clean the kids and the car, and for the smaller kids, take some disposable diapers and a travel potty.
While having whining kids is annoying, do not lose your temper instead enjoy appending time with your children and have fun!
